Instructions for Product sorting extension

What the add-on does

The add-on changes how products are ordered on the storefront. It moves products with the selected feature value to the top in the chosen categories and their child categories, and it also adds a dedicated ascending price sorting option where zero-price products receive a high sorting value within each group.

Where to find it

• Add-ons → Manage add-ons → add-on card — this is where the add-on page shows the description, instruction, and change history tabs.
• Catalog → Product features → required feature → variant — this is where you define the categories for the priority value.
• Storefront → Product category → Sorting — this is where customers see the result.

How to configure it

1. Open Catalog → Product features and select the feature you need.
2. Open the required feature variant for editing.
3. In the add-on block, choose the categories where this value should appear first.
4. If needed, assign the same category to several feature variants.
5. Save the changes.
6. If you need the price sorting option, check the standard storefront sorting list and make sure it is available there.

How to check it

1. Open a storefront category where feature-value priority is configured.
2. Make sure products with that value are shown first.
3. Open a child category and check inheritance if the child has no own assignments.
4. Select ascending price sorting and make sure zero-price products move lower within each priority group.

What to keep in mind

• Priority works only for feature values that have categories assigned.
• If several categories are assigned to one variant, the rule applies to all of them.
• Normal product sorting is preserved, the add-on only moves the priority group to the top.

Inheritance and the priority group

The open category is checked first, followed by its nearest parent and then ancestors. The first nonempty variant set is used. A child category's own rules replace rather than extend its parent's rules.

Several assigned variants form one priority group: matching any one of them is enough. Selection order does not rank products within the group; the current product sorting does. Removing all own assignments can restore inheritance from a parent.

Priority applies to storefront category pages. General search, the home page and arbitrary product blocks are not confirmed scopes for this rule.

Price sorting details

Choose the add-on's separate ascending-price sorting option. Despite the wording “without zero-price products”, these products are not removed. Zero prices use a sorting value of 99999999, so this is not an unconditional position after every possible price.

With feature priority enabled, the two groups are formed before price sorting. A priority product with a zero price can therefore appear above a non-priority product with a regular price. Check zero prices within each group, not only at the end of the whole list.

Control scenario

1. Use an existing feature variant and products with and without it.
2. Assign a category in the add-on's category picker and save. For a new variant, save the variant first, then configure categories.
3. Check both groups on the category page with the selected sorting.
4. Open a child category with no own assignments and check inheritance. Assign a different variant to that child and check that it replaces the parent's rule.
5. Test the separate ascending-price option with zero and nonzero prices in both groups.
6. To remove an assignment, clear the selected categories for the variant, save, then reopen the form to verify persistence.

If the order is unchanged, check product variant values, assignments for the open category and its ancestors, the category page address and the selected sorting method. Free-text and numeric values without a variant do not fit this mechanism.
