Filter Constructor

The “Filter Constructor” add-on collects the standard CS-Cart product filters into custom groups and displays them in the storefront in the order you define. It is intended for stores with a large number of filters, where a long flat list is not enough and a clear structure with per-filter appearance control is required.
What it is for
A large catalog often accumulates dozens of filters, and it becomes hard for customers to navigate them. The add-on helps group filters by meaning, set the order of the groups, and configure the appearance of each filter so the storefront stays clear and tidy.
In addition, the add-on speeds up working with filters: the product list and the available values are refreshed without reloading the page.
Key features
- grouping filters into groups with a configurable display order;
- per-filter appearance: number slider, no slider, dropdown, variant list, checkbox list, single checkbox, colours;
- group title and extra margin settings;
- collapsing long filter lists with the “Collapse” and “All parameters” buttons;
- filtering by warehouse city;
- saved search: the selected filter set is remembered for a category and applied the next time it is opened;
- the “MS: Filter groups” block for the block manager;
- refreshing the product list and filter availability without reloading the page.
How it works
A group stores a list of filters, their order, and appearance settings. In the group editor filters can be added, removed and reordered, and an appearance is selected for each filter. In the storefront the block renders the groups in the configured order; when a customer selects filters, the add-on refreshes the product list and the available filter values taking the already applied conditions into account.
Groups are configured under Products → MS: Filter groups, and the block itself is added under Design → Layouts → Block manager. The add-on has no separate settings: the service tables for the groups are created automatically during installation.
There are no mandatory dependencies on other add-ons. Filtering by warehouse city uses the warehouse and address data available in CS-Cart editions with multiple warehouses.

Instructions for the “Filter Constructor” add-on
What the add-on does
The add-on collects the standard product filters into groups, defines their order and appearance, and renders the resulting filter block on the storefront. When filters are selected, the product list and the available values are refreshed without reloading the page.
Where to find the add-on
Filter groups are created under Products → MS: Filter groups, and the filter block itself is added under Design → Layouts → Block manager.
Creating a filter group
- Go to Products → MS: Filter groups.
- Create a new filter group.
- On the “General” tab enter the group name and select the filters to include.
- Set the order of filters inside the group.
- On the “Control” tab configure the appearance of each filter, the group title and the extra margin.
- Save the group and enable it (status “Active”).
Filter appearance
- Slider with numbers — a numeric filter with a slider;
- Without slider — a numeric filter without a slider;
- Dropdown — feature variants in a dropdown;
- Variant list — feature variants as a separate list;
- Checkbox list — multiple value selection;
- Single checkbox — single value selection;
- Colours — variants displayed as colours.
Displaying the block on the storefront
- Open Design → Layouts → Block manager.
- Add the “MS: Filter groups” block to the required layout or page.
- In the block settings select the filter groups and, if needed, how many filter rows to hide.
- Save the block and check it on the storefront.
Storefront behaviour
- the configured filter groups are displayed on the category page;
- when values are selected, the product list and the available filters are refreshed without reloading the page;
- the “Save search” button remembers the selected filter set for the category and applies it the next time the category is opened;
- the “By warehouse city” filter, if included in a group, limits products to warehouses located in the selected city.
How to check the result
- Create a group with two or three filters and enable it.
- Make sure the group appears in the group list and in the storefront block.
- Open a category and check that filters apply and product counts are recalculated.
- Check saved search and the warehouse city filter if they are used.
Troubleshooting
- The group is not visible on the storefront. Check the group status and that the “MS: Filter groups” block is added to the layout and contains this group.
- A filter does not apply. Check that the filter is included in the group and that products have values for the corresponding feature.
- An error appears when a group is created. Check that the database user may work with tables and review the CS-Cart error log.
